Every so often someone comes up with an idea and offers up a challenge to me. The recent sad John Edwards revelations prompted one yesterday. Talk about our distain for the “mainstream media” with The National Enquirer breaking this one wide open! I wonder how they feel having to follow up and pick up the crumbs.

The DC Map Of Shame From The Oval Office To The Steps of the U.S. Capitol: Jenrette and his wife, Rita, had sex on the Capitol steps, giving new meaning to the word filibuster. You can’t make this stuff up. Truth is better than fiction around here, even though it’s in short supply.

John, was implicated in taking a bribe during the Abscam investigation and Rita testified at the hearings. She appeared on the Phil Donahue Show, and he called in live to join the conversation.


She gave an interview to Playboy magazine in 1981 appearing as a celebrity centerfold, in the magazine and on the cover in May 1984. The first of these interviews caused a scandal, as she told Playboy that she and her husband had sex on the steps of the U.S. Capitol during a break in an all-night House session. The comedy group "Capitol Steps" takes its name from this escapade. She separated from her husband in January 1981, and divorced him shortly after her first Playboy appearance.

She wrote a book called My Capitol Secrets in 1981 that detailed her experiences as a Congressional spouse United States Congress, and repeated the story of having sex with her husband on the Capitol steps, the night of their marriage.
