"The action I am taking is no more than a radical measure to hasten the explosion of truth and justice. I have but one passion: to enlighten those who have been kept in the dark, in the name of humanity which has suffered so much and is entitled to happiness. My fiery protest is simply the cry of my very soul. Let them dare, then, to bring me before a court of law and let the enquiry take place in broad daylight!" - Emile Zola, J'accuse! (1898) -

Every so often someone comes up with an idea and offers up a challenge to me. The recent sad John Edwards revelations prompted one yesterday. John, was implicated in taking a bribe during the Abscam investigation and Rita testified at the hearings. She appeared on the Phil Donahue Show, and he called in live to join the conversation.

She gave an interview to Playboy magazine in 1981 appearing as a celebrity centerfold, in the magazine and on the cover in May 1984. The first of these interviews caused a scandal, as she told Playboy that she and her husband had sex on the steps of the U.S. Capitol during a break in an all-night House session. The comedy group "Capitol Steps" takes its name from this escapade. She separated from her husband in January 1981, and divorced him shortly after her first Playboy appearance.

She wrote a book called My Capitol Secrets in 1981 that detailed her experiences as a Congressional spouse United States Congress, and repeated the story of having sex with her husband on the Capitol steps, the night of their marriage.
