"The action I am taking is no more than a radical measure to hasten the explosion of truth and justice. I have but one passion: to enlighten those who have been kept in the dark, in the name of humanity which has suffered so much and is entitled to happiness. My fiery protest is simply the cry of my very soul. Let them dare, then, to bring me before a court of law and let the enquiry take place in broad daylight!" - Emile Zola, J'accuse! (1898) -

Nancy Pelosi Speaks Her Mind (Small Talk : Short Conversation)

In an interview appearing in the August issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House and the most (politically) powerful woman in the United States, gives these wonderful words:

“The end part of it is, fashion and all that it implies — hair, makeup — is an art form. If you look organized and well presented, people think that you’re organized in your mind and you take pride in yourself. And besides, it’s fun.”

The wife, mother, and grandmother of seven shares her secrets for a balanced life, being sensational (I know a Great Eye Surgeon; She already has her own Plastic Surgeon) after 60, and why America is no longer a country for old men.

For a while, everything in Nancy D’Alesandro’s life went according to plan. The only daughter in a family of prominent Maryland Democrats, she graduated from Trinity College, married her college sweetheart, Paul Pelosi, and raised five children.

Flash forward to 1987: Congresswoman Sala Burton, faced with terminal cancer, makes a last request that Pelosi succeed her in Congress. Before proceeding, Pelosi consults her youngest daughter, Alexandra, who is about to enter her senior year of high school. Her advice? “Mother, get a life.”

Now, more than 20 years later, Pelosi is Speaker of the House of Representatives and second in the line of presidential succession. On the eve of this month’s Democratic National Convention, Nancy Pelosi talks to Bazaar about George Bush, Barack Obama, and her new book, Know Your Power: A Message to America’s Daughters.

HB: How do you stay looking good?

NP: Dark chocolate. I love chocolate. I love chocolate ice cream. I love chocolate candy. The darker the better. I move around a lot, but I’ve never been one to have an exercise regimen. I do walk, and I choose to walk rather than take an elevator or ride at any chance I can. One of the things I do each day is take my bubble bath with my book and my chocolate candy. All day, I know that by night I’m going to be doing my crossword puzzles or reading a book, soaking in the tub, eating my chocolate.

'Most (politically) powerful woman'? Most powerful person, period. In fact since the Democrats took control of the House, the high crimes and misdemeanors of Cheney and Bush are her fault; she has the power and the duty to rein them in, to jerk in their leashes and bring them to heel. Her House has the 'sole power to impeach'. Unless and until she gets these jokers impeached, she is an accomplice in their destruction of the Republic, the Constitution, and the rule of law. She and her House are either beholden to huge Corporate (d)onors, scared spitless, or ignorant of who they are, the controlling power in US governmen: I vote for all three.
